Self Storage Built Around You
At Crofton Hall Self Storage we provide humidity-controlled, secure self storage.
We understand that:
- You just need somewhere to put some things, and it shouldn't be complicated to arrange.
- It should be low-cost, not a small fortune!
- It may be short-term, long-term or maybe you don't even know yet.
- Access in working hours is not good enough - you need access from early morning to late at night, every day; even weekends and Bank Holidays.
- You need somewhere that you can get to easily; you don't want to fight through city traffic or battling with parking problems.
- It has to be very secure and your things must be insured. If you're worried about your property, it isn't worth doing.
- You don't want your stuff to be in a damp garage or lockup. You want to know that it is in a controlled environment.
We can help!
We provide Secure Self Storage for the Wigton, Carlisle and Cumbria area in the old Crofton Hall Stable Block. The building we have chosen is ideally suited to Self Storage, as it is a solid stone built stable and has been retro-fitted with self-storage booths and a humidity control system to avoid problems with damp. You can use us for short-term or long-term storage of your items. The facility, and indeed each storage unit, is protected by state-of-the-art security technology, and we can arrange to insure your property for you also.
We've designed our opening hours to allow for easy and convenient access, even if you work full-time, shifts or at the weekend. Your Self Storage unit can be accessed seven-days-a-week, 365 days-a-year, between the hours of 07:00 and 21:00, and if that doesn't provide the flexibility you need, we can tailor something to suit your needs specifically.
Our storage is in a humidity controlled building. We are often asked 'Is this storage Climate Controlled?' or 'Is the storage heated?'.
When they ask these questions, what people usually want to know is 'Will my stuff get damp?' Controlling humidity (or the amount of water present in the air) is the key to reducing the problem of damp. We run a humidity control system. This system constantly monitors the level of moisture in the air, whilst it circulates it through the building. If the humidity gets above around 50%, it starts to process the air to strip out some of the moisture, heating it slightly as it does so.
All of this is automated, and it means that your stored items are in an environment that is managed by the same type of control system that is used in museums and art galleries.
Our storage is very competitively priced. Although storage rates move all the time, when we have carried out comparisons, we have been the lowest cost in the area. Not only that, but our competitors have had to charge VAT on their storage fees since 1st October 2012, but as a small family business, we're not large enough to be required to register for VAT and as we deal mostly with people, not companies, this gives you a real cost saving; we don't charge you the 20% VAT that our competitors do!

Since the Crofton Hall estate left the ownership of the Brisco family, the buildings have had to find new owners and new uses. They are now used for all kinds of different purposes, although some, like the former dairy, haven't changed all that much. We're very pleased to say that the buildings around Crofton Hall have generally been used for sympathetic purposes, which are very much in keeping with the spirit of the estate.
Here are just a few of our neighbours; we hope that it will show you what is on offer immediately surrounding the CL site.
The Crofton Lake
Near the site is a large coarse-fishing lake, which was originally the water feature for the Crofton Hall. It is now owned and managed by the Carlisle and District Angling Club.
See the CADCAC page for more details.
The Cheese Farm
In the former dairy buildings, the Thornby Moor Dairy is housed, started in 1979 by Carolyn Fairbairn. Local shorthorn cows provide milk for unpasteurized cheese. Goats' cheese is another of their products, which visitors can purchase in the shop after viewing the cheese being made.
See the Thorny Moor Dairy Website for more information.
Crofton Hall Certified Location (CL) Caravan Park
We have used the old Victorian Walled Garden to create a beautiful and tranquil Caravan Site for just five caravans, motorhomes and trailer tents. These pitches are spread over two acres, and benefit from power and water in each pitch, not to mention excellent bathroom facilities nearby.
